The 19th of July was both an exciting and sad evening for the NGH Choir. The evening of their Summer concert, but also their last event with their accompanist Alistair Law who had been with the choir since its beginning in 2014. Ali was off to a new job in the Caymen Islands - golden beaches... and home to the 'Red Footed Booby' as the choir's chairman Kate, Infant Feeding Coordinator for the Hospital, was delighted to inform Ali in his parting speech.
Hosted in the Cripps Postgraduate Centre within the Hospital, the concert was an amazing celebration of the wonderful work the choir had put in over their first term with their new conductor, Jess. The evening was one of the highest quality with the choir singing a wide range of songs from spirituals, to popular music, to choral songs by John Rutter. The concert also featured a solo from Phantom of the Opera by the choir's conductor, and as a surprising parting gift to the choir, a duet from Ali and Jess which was met with a standing ovation!
After the concert, the choir went out for a social to say an emotional farewell to Ali. Drinks, snacks, novelty sunglasses and a jazzy T-Shirt for Ali - the whole choir were full of laughter and smiles.
A magical evening filled with fabulous music-making, laughter, and a few tears - a fabulous send off for our lovely accompanist.
